Hear from our latest homeowners

Bob and Pat Sawyer in their new home at Scalesceugh

Bob and Pat are the latest homeowners to join our community at Scalesceugh after moving from their home in the town of Ludlow, Shropshire.

Bob is a retired Education Technologist having worked for 21 years at Glasgow Caledonian University, whilst Pat previously worked as a Market Researcher. After discussions with their daughter and son-in-law who live in Edinburgh, they knew that they didn’t want to spend any more of their years living at such a great distance from their family and so decided to make the move up North to benefit from easier access to the Scottish Capital.

Bob explains: “One of our daughter’s lives in Spain and the other in Edinburgh, and we don’t get to see them much during the year. After talks with our son-in-law in Edinburgh, we realised now was the time to move somewhere closer so we could see them more frequently and spend more time with our grandchild.”

“Having researched online, we thought a property close to the Border City of Carlisle would be ideal for us due to the easy access to the motorway and rail connections. Whilst previously living in Ludlow, our connections to transport were rather poor. We had to drive an hour on country roads before reaching the nearest motorway to drive North, whilst our total journey time to Edinburgh could sometimes take up to 6-7 hours! Scalesceugh was one of the first developments we came across on our search. We liked what we saw online and booked a visit to view the villas straight away.”

"We are excited at the experience of being part of the growing community here"

Having enjoyed their past 21 years living in a market town in Shropshire surrounded by beautiful countryside, retaining a similar rural setting was a key factor when searching for the location of their new home.

Pat explains: “Whilst we knew there were developments located in Carlisle itself, living in a city wasn’t for us. We didn’t want to downsize to an apartment either, as still having our own private garden and a generously-sized home was important.”

“When we viewed one of the three-bedroom villas at Scalesceugh, we were delighted with the spaciousness of the property and the fact it had its own garden looking out onto beautiful countryside. We're also excited at the experience of being part of the growing community here. We knew the villa ticked all the right boxes for us, and following our return for a second viewing, we reserved our new home!”

"It's great being able to experience the best of both worlds"

Having only recently moved in to their new home at Scalesceugh, Bob and Pat are already enjoying life in North Cumbria and benefiting from the fantastic local facilities near our development.

Pat commented: “We’ve already taken a drive down to Penrith to do our food shopping at Booths, which we think will be our new go to supermarket! There’s a far greater choice of shops and supermarkets within easy reach here than what we had living in Ludlow. It’s great being able to experience the best of both worlds – being surrounded by stunning countryside, whilst only being around 10 minutes’ drive away from the amenities and transport links in Carlisle.”

“I’ve also already taken a visit to the local GP surgery having hurt my arm and have been delighted with the standard of service I received. I called for an appointment and was seen promptly the following morning. Knowing that we have good quality medical facilities within easy reach has really put our minds at ease, as we were starting to feel the standard of our local facilities in Ludlow was declining.”

After moving into their new home, the couple were welcomed into the Scalesceugh community by fellow residents who organised an outdoor welcome party. Everyone enjoyed some wine in the sunshine and got to know their new neighbours!
